What happened: The Pittsburgh Penguins are open to moving veteran forwards in order to clear space on the NHL roster, according to Pro Hockey Rumors. Trade discussions around Pittsburgh's forward group have persisted since camp as management evaluates its early regular-season lineup.

Why it matters: Dealing established skaters would ease the roster squeeze shaping Pittsburgh's rebuild while opening regular-season ice time for younger forwards. Shedding veteran contracts also gives the front office cap and lineup flexibility.

What to watch: Pittsburgh's front office will continue gauging league-wide interest in its available veterans as the regular season progresses.
