Penix: I’m really close. #Falcons Via @marcraimondi on X

What happened: The quarterback was cleared for full football activities in late August after surgery to repair a left ACL tear. Atlanta had limited him to individual and 7-on-7 work before that clearance.

Why it matters: The Falcons will open the season without their recent first-round quarterback as an in-game option. They also held him out of the preseason finale, leaving him without exhibition game action.

By the numbers: Penix logged six 11-on-11 practices before Atlanta set its Week 1 quarterback plan.

What to watch: His Week 2 availability and full-team practice volume are the next markers.
