What happened: Jac Caglianone's preceding homer drove in two runs in the top of the third. Perez followed with a solo shot for his 16th homer of the season.

Why it matters: The early power surge followed a 3-1 loss in the series opener. Perez had already secured the franchise career record with his 318th homer.

By the numbers: Perez's homer left the bat at 104.2 mph and traveled 425 feet at a 33-degree launch angle. It came on an 83 mph sweeper.

What to watch: The remaining innings will determine whether the early power produces a series-tying win.
