What happened: Alonso reached the 300-homer mark Tuesday night with a game-tying drive at Citi Field. The milestone shifted attention back to the path from his first major league homer to No. 300.

Why it matters: Round-number power milestones still carry weight in September, and this one landed in Alonso's first game back at Citi Field since joining Baltimore. It also sharpened the contrast between his New York past and his current role with the Orioles.

By the numbers: 300 career home runs; No. 300 came in the ninth inning and tied the game at Citi Field in his first game back there since joining Baltimore.

What to watch: The next check is whether Alonso turns the milestone into another late-season run for Baltimore. His next homer will push him beyond 300 and move the story from the round number to the pace after it.
