What happened: A reunion between the Philadelphia Phillies and a former infielder cannot be ruled out this offseason, per Yahoo Sports. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski separately noted that while Trea Turner will have the opportunity to hold the shortstop job, the front office will maintain fallback options across the dirt.

Why it matters: Philadelphia is reshaping its post-deadline roster and coaching staff simultaneously after locking in manager Don Mattingly through 2028 and parting ways with coaches Kevin Long and Bobby Dickerson. While the club is not expected to shop core bats Bryce Harper or Kyle Schwarber, infield depth and defensive flexibility remain active offseason priorities.

What to watch: Philadelphia will evaluate internal and external infield options as offseason free agency and trade discussions open following the World Series.
