What happened: Philadelphia parted ways with hitting coach Kevin Long and infield coach Bobby Dickerson ahead of the 2027 season, per Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia. The dual coaching departures open two key bench roles as the organization begins its offseason restructuring.

Why it matters: The staff changes arrive immediately after the club signed manager Don Mattingly to a two-year contract after he guided the roster to a 79-55 record following a 9-19 start. Philadelphia is concurrently evaluating offseason trade scenarios that could move top starting pitching for an impact position player worth three to four WAR.

What to watch: Mattingly and the front office will now search for replacement hitting and infield instructors ahead of the 2027 campaign.
