What happened: Andrew Painter, the Phillies' top pitching prospect, was officially added to the Opening Day roster and will start the fifth game of the season. He impressed in spring training with 11.2 innings pitched, a 2.31 ERA, and 0.77 WHIP. In the same week, Painter proposed to his girlfriend Shelby after a spring outing.

Why it matters: Painter joins a stacked rotation with Sanchez, Nola, Luzardo, and Walker, fortifying Philadelphia's playoff push in the competitive NL East. Recovered from 2023 Tommy John surgery and a subpar 2025 (5.26 ERA), his health reassures fans and fantasy players while potentially tightening Phillies. The engagement adds a heartwarming personal angle to his breakthrough.
