What happened: César Prieto was recalled from Triple-A, and Joshua Báez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. The IL move was listed as retroactive to Sept. 17.

Why it matters: The transaction opens an infield roster spot while taking a bat out of the outfield mix in the final stretch of the regular season. Prieto was optioned to Triple-A on Sept. 8 after an earlier recall on Aug. 31, so this is a quick return to the active roster.

By the numbers: Prieto's roster timeline this month: recalled Aug. 31, optioned Sept. 8, recalled again Sept. 19. Báez's IL move was retroactive to Sept. 17.

What to watch: Watch the next lineup card for Prieto's role and for any follow-up move tied to the outfield vacancy.
