What happened: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, appearing on The Insiders, identified the Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 as the Sunday Night Football matchup on NBC he is most looking forward to from the freshly released 2026 schedule. The segment is part of a running schedule-release roll-out in which NFL Network analysts each highlight a game they are anticipating across various primetime windows.

Why it matters: Eagles-49ers has become one of the NFL's signature NFC rivalries in recent seasons, with playoff stakes typically attached to the meeting. Slotting it in Week 17 on SNF positions it as a potential seeding-defining game late in the regular season, which is the window the league traditionally reserves for matchups with playoff leverage.

What to watch: Watch for opening Week 17 spreads and SNF win-total markets to firm up around this matchup, plus any flex-scheduling chatter if either team's record swings sharply by December.
