What happened: Ferrari led all three practice sessions before qualifying fourth and fifth. The pole lap was 1:34.035, with Red Bull's quickest car 0.179 seconds behind.

Why it matters: The result gives Red Bull two cars ahead of Ferrari for Sunday's race. It also reverses the order suggested by practice, leaving race pace to test whether that advantage holds.

By the numbers: Second through fifth were separated by 0.097 seconds, with laps of 1:34.214, 1:34.250, 1:34.267 and 1:34.311.

What to watch: Sunday's race will test whether Red Bull can convert its grid positions and whether Ferrari can recover its practice pace.
