What happened: Detroit must sign restricted free agent Simon Edvinsson by the afternoon of Dec. 1 or trade his rights to a club that will sign him. He remains unsigned as Detroit finishes a four-game road trip Monday against Edmonton.

Why it matters: Edvinsson skates behind Moritz Seider on Detroit's blue line. Losing eligibility for the remainder of the season would remove a lineup regular and a trade asset.

What to watch: Detroit continues its schedule before the Dec. 1 afternoon cutoff forces a signing or a trade of his rights.
