What happened: The Ottawa Senators have secured a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs standings after a strong recent stretch. They currently hold the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference following a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. This marks a turnaround from earlier struggles in the season.

Why it matters: It heightens elimination risks for teams like the Red Wings and Canadiens trailing closely. Historically, Ottawa's last deep playoff run was in 2007, adding narrative weight.

By the numbers: Eastern Conference Wild Card Standings (as of latest): 1. NY Islanders (92 pts), 2. Ottawa Senators (91 pts, 41-28-9), 3. Detroit Red Wings (90 pts). Series prop vs. top seed: +600. Recent form: 8-1-1 in last 10 games. No major injuries reported.

What to watch: Monitor Senators' next game vs. Tampa Bay Lightning for hold on spot. Watch Red Wings' response in their back-to-back.
