What happened: Kyle Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis as training camp begins. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster will assume some of his duties during the recovery.

Why it matters: The timing forces San Francisco to redistribute coaching responsibilities as preparations for the 2026 season accelerate. The arrangement keeps Shanahan involved while reducing his workload.

What to watch: Watch how Shanahan's camp participation changes and which responsibilities remain with Foerster.
