What happened: Premier Lacrosse League standout Connor Shellenberger appeared on SportsCenter ahead of the league's 2026 season opener to discuss his expectations for the year. The Cannons attackman also addressed his role as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia and his recent engagement. The interview spotlights one of the PLL's most marketable young faces as the league launches its new season.

Why it matters: Shellenberger is a centerpiece of the PLL's effort to grow its mainstream profile, and SportsCenter placement signals continued ESPN investment in lacrosse coverage. His dual identity as a pro player and college coach is unusual and adds narrative depth heading into opening weekend. The PLL needs star-driven storytelling to convert its broadcast platform into sustained fan engagement.

What to watch: Watch for Shellenberger's on-field performance in the PLL opener and how the league leans into his profile in early-season promotion. UVA's fall coaching staff alignment is also worth tracking.
