What happened: PennLive's Nick Farabaugh reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions could orchestrate a trade involving Asante Samuel Jr. or Brandin Echols. The Lions are searching for secondary help after releasing Terrion Arnold and facing uncertainty regarding Kerby Joseph's chronic knee injury. Detroit is currently relying on D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin as their primary starting cornerbacks.

Why it matters: Pittsburgh boasts significant cornerback depth and has already been highly active in the trade market in recent offseasons. Dealing a veteran would clear playing time for younger options like rookie Daylen Everette while yielding additional assets. For the Lions, acquiring an experienced defensive back would stabilize a compromised position group heading into the upcoming 2026 campaign.

What to watch: Monitor the trade market as Pittsburgh's training camp opens on July 28. Early standout performances from rookies could accelerate a deal before the preseason begins.
