What happened: A former teammate of Aaron Rodgers called on the Pittsburgh Steelers to make a wide receiver addition through free agency or the trade market, per Yahoo Sports. The push centers on upgrading the perimeter weapons available to the veteran quarterback during the 2026 regular season.

Why it matters: Pittsburgh has focused its early October roster activity on defensive depth, signing edge rusher KJ Henry and cornerback Terell Smith to the active roster on Oct. 6 before returning cornerback Doneiko Slaughter to the practice squad on Oct. 7. Adding an established pass-catcher before the 2026 NFL trade deadline would give the offense another downfield threat.

By the numbers: Per ESPN, Rodgers completed 327 of 498 passes for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions across 16 games for the Steelers in 2025. Drafted 24th overall out of California in 2005, Rodgers averaged 6.7 yards per attempt during his 2025 campaign in Pittsburgh.

What to watch: Pittsburgh's front office faces a decision on whether to pursue a veteran wideout in free agency or via trade before the 2026 NFL trade deadline.
