What happened: ESPN's SportsCenter posted a clip of the NBA Today crew joking that any mention of the New York Knicks summons Stephen A. Smith, who promptly appeared on set. The lighthearted moment leaned into Smith's well-known role as ESPN's most vocal Knicks supporter. The post was framed as comedy, not news.

Why it matters: The bit lands during a Knicks playoff run that has dominated ESPN coverage, with New York advancing past the Hawks and now battling the 76ers. Smith's omnipresence around Knicks storylines has become a recurring meme inside ESPN's own programming. It reflects how central the Knicks have become to the network's postseason narrative.

What to watch: Watch for continued Knicks-centric segments on NBA Today and First Take as the postseason progresses. Smith's on-air reactions tend to spike alongside New York's series swings.
