What happened: Houston acquired Demercado on Wednesday, one day after Dallas waived him on Oct. 27, per Adam Schefter. The claim concludes a stint in which the Cowboys re-signed him on Oct. 13 after previously waiving him on Oct. 8.

Why it matters: The addition provides the 13th-seeded Texans with experienced backfield depth as they look to rebound from a 27-21 Week 8 defeat. Meanwhile, the 3-4 Cowboys sit 11th in their conference standings following a 38-21 victory on Oct. 26 and reshape their bottom-of-the-roster depth.

By the numbers: Demercado recorded 44 carries for 312 yards across 13 games during the 2025 season, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt. Houston enters Week 9 at 2-5 on a one-game skid, while Dallas holds a 3-4 mark.

What to watch: Demercado will work to learn Houston's offensive playbook ahead of Week 9 and the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.
