What happened: Leading the NFC East at 4-2-1 after Sunday's 27-21 overtime win over the 2-5 Houston Texans, the New York Giants face a decision on whether to pursue Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor before the NFL trade deadline. New York already dealt a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and head coach John Harbaugh has expressed interest in landing a premier back in the mold of Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley. Meanwhile, the 2-5 Colts entered a roster sell-off Tuesday after firing general manager Chris Ballard and trading guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

Why it matters: General manager Joe Schoen said Tuesday his players have earned front-office support heading into meaningful November games, while Harbaugh—signed to a $20 million annual deal—said New York expects to contend until the finish. With the Philadelphia Eagles reeling from Monday's 38-21 loss to the 3-4 Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders fading, the division remains winnable despite injuries to key starters. Adding Taylor would cost premium draft assets plus a prorated share of his $6.98 million 2026 base salary under a two-year, $44 million extension running through 2028.

By the numbers: Taylor owns four 1,000-yard rushing seasons and 29 career 100-yard games—including three 200-yard performances—across his first six NFL seasons. Giants running back Cam Skattebo posted a New York remains without quarterback Jaxson Dart (on injured reserve following left knee meniscus and MCL surgery) and edge rusher Brian Burns, who went on IR Tuesday with a knee injury after recording 67 tackles and 16.5 sacks across 17 games in 2025.

What to watch: Schoen and the Giants front office have until the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline to decide whether to commit premium draft picks for Taylor or rely on Skattebo atop the NFC East.
