Opponent winning percentage is the fourth tiebreaker step

What happened: Texas is 3-2 in SEC play with four conference games left, so a perfect finish tops out at 7-2. Back-to-back wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State put the Longhorns back in the race, but Georgia and Kentucky sit ahead at 5-1.

Why it matters: The SEC breaks ties by head-to-head results, then record against common opponents, then record against the highest-placed common opponent. The fourth step is the cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents, so the strength of Texas' schedule could decide a multi-team tie. Capped relative scoring margin and a random draw follow.

By the numbers: SEC standings as of Wednesday: Georgia and Kentucky 5-1; Alabama and Ole Miss 4-2; Texas, LSU, Missouri and Tennessee 3-2. Texas' remaining games: at Missouri, at LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M.

What to watch: Texas visits Missouri on Saturday, the same day Alabama plays LSU, Georgia plays Ole Miss and Kentucky plays Tennessee. Each of those games hands a team in the standings another conference loss.
