What happened: The Portland Timbers are set to name Marti Cifuentes as their next head coach, per a report from Tom Bogert. Cifuentes previously managed Leicester City, where he was dismissed with the club in 14th place, six points outside a playoff position.

Why it matters: Portland is lining up a replacement after Jim Curtin agreed to take over Austin FC following the 2026 season, leaving the Timbers bench in transition. The club cites Cifuentes' attack-minded philosophy and tactical sophistication as the fit for the role.

What to watch: Watch for Portland's official confirmation of the hire and a timeline for when Cifuentes would take charge.
