What happened: TJ Rumfield was named a Rawlings Gold Glove finalist at first base for the National League. The finalists at the position are Rumfield, Matt Olson and Ty France. Winners will be selected from the three finalists at each position.

Why it matters: The nod caps a full-season defensive workload as a rookie at first base. It places Rumfield alongside established veteran competition in the National League field. Award season now runs through the postseason announcement cycle.

By the numbers: Rumfield is one of five rookies since 1901 with at least 1,150 innings at first base and seven or fewer errors, joining Todd Helton.

What to watch: Watch for the Rawlings Gold Glove winners announcement to decide the NL first base award.
