"He's at his best in the most critical moments... He looks like he's built for it." - Mike Tomlin HEAPING PRAISE on Josh Via @PFF on X

What happened: Asked which current quarterback he would want to coach, Tomlin selected Allen. He pointed to Allen's ability to deliver late with his arm and legs.

Why it matters: PFF separately ranked Allen first among all 32 starters entering the 2026 season. That standing puts added attention on his late-game work as the regular season opens.

By the numbers: Allen enters 2026 with an NFL-record 79 career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and six consecutive seasons with a 90.0-plus PFF grade.

What to watch: Allen's late-game possessions in the opening weeks will test Tomlin's assessment.
