Happy Independence Day, Twins Territory! 🇺🇸 https://t.co/CHyToeue81

What happened: The Minnesota Twins sent Independence Day wishes to Twins Territory on Saturday as the United States celebrated its 250th birthday. The holiday greeting came with the club in New York ahead of a Fourth of July matchup against the Yankees.

Why it matters: Holiday baseball is one of the sport's oldest traditions, and this Fourth carries extra weight as America's semiquincentennial. For the Twins, the festivities arrive during a challenging stretch: at 42-47, Minnesota is trying to regroup after dropping Friday's series opener in the Bronx.

By the numbers: Minnesota enters the day 42-47, scoring 4.8 runs per game while allowing 5.2. New York sits at 49-38, scoring 4.9 and allowing 3.8. On Friday, the Yankees took the opener 5-2.

What to watch: The Twins and Yankees continue their series Saturday in New York, with Minnesota looking to even things up on the holiday.
