What happened: The Vancouver Canucks placed Jack Thompson on the NHL waiver wire on Sunday, per PuckPedia. Across the league, Merkulov, Ahcan, and MacDermid cleared waivers after landing on the wire the previous day.

Why it matters: Placing Thompson on waivers gives the Canucks roster flexibility as the club manages its regular-season lineup and continues recent Vancouver waiver wire activity. Every other NHL club now has a claim window to acquire Thompson before Vancouver can assign him to the minor leagues.

What to watch: Thompson's waiver status will be resolved on Monday afternoon, determining whether another club claims his contract or he remains in the Vancouver organization.
