What happened: Brian Flores runs Minnesota's defense as defensive coordinator. He is cast as a disruptor taking on the entire NFL. He carries an established reputation as an exacting disciplinarian.

Why it matters: Assistant coaching impact rarely draws league-wide focus during the regular season. A runner-up finish two seasons ago underscores sustained influence rather than a one-year surge. Minnesota's defensive identity remains tied to his scheme and discipline.

What to watch: Minnesota's upcoming defensive performances will test the case. Continued evaluation through 2026 will show whether the gap holds.
