What happened: Victor Wembanyama enters the opener having led the NBA in blocks per game in each of the last three seasons. San Antonio hosts its season opener with the game yet to tip.

Why it matters: A fourth straight blocks lead would be the first since blocks became an official statistic in 1973-74. The opener starts the season-long chase that will decide the record.

What to watch: Opening-night rim protection sets the early pace to track.
