"Caleb Williams is developing into his own identity...he is a 5-tool player." @DangeRussWilson https://t.co/QDeBRzxrre Via @NFLonCBS on X

What happened: NFL on CBS carried the comment from Wilson on Williams' growth. It follows his four-total-touchdown opener on Sept. 13.

Why it matters: Top-pick quarterbacks face compressed timelines to show consistency. Williams completed 330 passes for 3,942 yards in 2025, setting the baseline for his third-year evaluation.

By the numbers: Draft: 1st overall in 2024 out of USC (as of 2026-09-29). 2025, 17 games: 330-of-568 for 3,942 yards with 27 TD and 7 INT (per ESPN, as of 2026-09-29).

What to watch: Coming starts will test decision-making and turnover rate against regular-season defenses.
