What happened: Fabrizio Romano reports Xabi Alonso has opened the door to a Premier League move this summer after initial contacts with his agents. Chelsea hold a manager shortlist that includes Alonso and are aware of his availability, with Andoni Iraola also a leading contender who wants to remain in the Premier League. No decision has been made yet on Alonso's next club.

Why it matters: The signal extends a managerial story already developing around Chelsea's shortlist, sharpening a two-name race between Alonso and Iraola. For Chelsea, the choice frames the club's next tactical identity and recruitment plan. For the Premier League, a high-profile arrival reshapes the manager market into the 2026-27 season.

What to watch: Watch for follow-up reporting on direct club-to-club or club-to-manager contact, and any movement from Iraola's camp. Decisions on both managers are expected to firm up as the summer window approaches.
