Yankees lose outfielder for 4-6 weeks as deadline nears

Spencer Jones takes the open active-roster spot.

What happened: New York placed an outfielder on the 10-day injured list after an MRI found a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. He was hurt running out an eighth-inning double Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Why it matters: Aaron Judge's extended absence leaves the New York Yankees without two impact bats. The Aug. 3 trade deadline gives the club less than a week to reinforce the offense.

By the numbers: The sidelined outfielder is batting .259/.350/.420 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs in 102 games. Ryan Jeffers has a 160 wRC+ in 185 plate appearances, while Austin Wells has an 11 wRC+ against left-handers.

What to watch: Yahoo MLB has linked New York to Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers and outfielders Lane Thomas, Jo Adell, Taylor Ward and Heliot Ramos. The next move will show whether the club prioritizes one position or adds multiple bats.
