What happened: New York did not acquire pitching before the deadline. The staff was already dealing with attrition and injuries.

Why it matters: The latest concern further strains the Yankees' existing pitching depth. The deadline decision leaves fewer options for covering additional losses.

What to watch: The next update on Weathers' forearm will shape New York's pitching plans.
