What happened: Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese and Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase face off on opposite benches in the 2026 WNBA Finals after previously sharing a title stage. Nakase called Reese the ultimate competitor while preparing Golden State's game plan for the series opener.

Why it matters: The matchup pits the reigning 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year against a Golden State coaching staff led by an August Coach of the Month winner. Slowing Reese in the paint is central to the Valkyries' defensive scheme as Atlanta makes its first Finals appearance since 2013.

What to watch: Atlanta and Golden State open Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
