What happened: Brian Sabean has been placed on the Contemporary Baseball Era ballot for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The veteran executive addressed the selection alongside the conclusion of his tenure with the New York Yankees, who recently parted ways with the longtime advisor.

Why it matters: The ballot recognition honors Sabean's multi-decade career constructing championship rosters across Major League Baseball. His departure marks an early step in New York's front-office restructuring heading into the offseason.

What to watch: The Contemporary Baseball Era committee will consider the ballot ahead of the Hall of Fame induction voting. New York will proceed with reshaping its baseball operations department ahead of the winter meetings.
