What happened: Pro Football Focus tracked Denver's 2026 offense at 4.40 yards per play, dipping below the 4.41 mark set in 1977. The slide comes on the heels of an outing in which the Broncos posted 168 total yards, the lowest total of the Sean Payton era.

Why it matters: Winning four of six games while averaging 4.40 yards per snap leaves Denver with minimal margin for error over the remainder of the 2026 regular season. Even the franchise's late-1970s offenses generated more yardage per play than the current unit.

By the numbers: Fewest yards per offensive play in Broncos history (per PFF): 2026 (4.40), 1977 (4.41), 1976 (4.59), 1978 (4.64), and 2001 (4.66).

What to watch: Denver carries its 4-2 record into Week 7 aiming to lift its per-snap production above the 1977 benchmark.
