What happened: Spencer Carbery pointed to the upcoming exhibition slate as a separator for players competing for roster spots. He also laid out his approach to special teams and highlighted Boone Jenner's impact in the locker room.

Why it matters: The next preseason games now carry added weight for fringe jobs and early special-teams assignments as camp competition tightens. Jenner's presence matters because he arrived this summer on a four-year, $23 million deal, giving Washington another veteran voice to lean on.

What to watch: The next exhibition games should clarify who is gaining ground on the back end of the roster and which combinations get the first special-teams look. Carbery's deployment decisions there will offer the clearest early read on camp battles.
