What happened: Carlos Prates and Michael Morales will meet for the interim welterweight championship atop UFC 336 in Toronto on Jan. 30, per Bleacher Report. Islam Makhachev will not compete on the January card after Prates previously stated a deal was in place to challenge him for the title.

Why it matters: Booking an interim championship keeps the welterweight title picture active after Makhachev indicated he would not be ready for a three-month turnaround into the January date. The matchup elevates both contenders after Ariel Helwani previously noted their title-shot timeline clashed with the promotion's schedule.

What to watch: The winner of the Jan. 30 main event in Toronto will claim the interim belt and position himself for a title unification bout with Makhachev.
