What happened: Fabrizio Romano reports Manchester United and Michael Carrick are set to continue together next season and beyond. Chances of him staying have been increasing for weeks, with players and management on the same page. Talks are moving toward final stages on a new deal.

Why it matters: The decision signals stability at Old Trafford after a turbulent stretch, with the club opting for continuity over another managerial reset. It also aligns with prior reporting that Manchester United were preparing to open permanent contract talks with Carrick, suggesting the internal review favored keeping him beyond an interim role.

What to watch: Watch for the formal contract announcement and the length/terms of the new deal. Squad-building plans and summer transfer priorities under Carrick will follow.
