What happened: Jackson Chourio became the second batter since 2008 to hit a home run on the first pitch of an MLB postseason game, taking Blake Snell deep to open NLCS Game 3. Davis Schneider recorded the only other first-pitch playoff homer in that span, also off Snell during Game 5 of the 2025 World Series.

Why it matters: Despite surrendering the immediate solo shot, Snell retired 14 straight batters after Chourio's leadoff homer to stabilize his outing through four innings.

By the numbers: 2: First-pitch postseason home runs in MLB since 2008, hit by Davis Schneider (2025 World Series Game 5) and Jackson Chourio (2026 NLCS Game 3), both allowed by Blake Snell. 14: Consecutive batters retired by Snell immediately following Chourio's leadoff home run in NLCS Game 3.

What to watch: The NLCS continues following the Game 3 matchup.
