What happened: The College GameDay panel of Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit assessed where the College Football Playoff bracket stands on Saturday. The discussion followed the release of the season's first rankings.

Why it matters: Several teams chasing a playoff spot have games today that bear directly on their positioning. The same College GameDay panel weighed contenders and sleepers a week ago, before the rankings were out.

What to watch: Saturday's results will shape the next set of rankings and the bracket picture that follows.
