What happened: Connor McDavid became the fastest player in NHL history to reach 30 assists in a single season. The milestone eclipses the prior league benchmark set by Wayne Gretzky.

Why it matters: The record-breaking pace continues a prolific start to the 2026-27 campaign for McDavid, who recently reached another career milestone in late October. Topping Gretzky's mark reinforces his standing among the game's all-time elite playmakers.

What to watch: Edmonton continues its regular-season schedule as McDavid aims to sustain his historic scoring pace.
