Daylen Everette shows open-field tackling gains in preseason

The third-round corner posted a 9.89 athletic score

What happened: The former Georgia starter made Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster after playing parts of two preseason games. His coverage included steady man-to-man reps against Buffalo but uneven zone work against Green Bay.

Why it matters: Everette enters the season behind Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey, Jamel Dean, Asante Samuel Jr. and Brandin Echols. Improved tackling could help him climb a crowded cornerback rotation.

By the numbers: Everette measured 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds before the draft, ran 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash and recorded a 9.89 Relative Athletic Score.

What to watch: Early regular-season usage will show whether Everette can turn his preseason work into defensive snaps.
