What happened: ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell projected a trade sending Washington Commanders offensive lineman Andrew Wylie to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline. New England faces severe attrition up front after losing Alijah Vera-Tucker, Morgan Moses, and Ben Brown during a win over the New York Jets while Will Campbell played through a knee injury. Wylie offers experience at right tackle and both guard spots for a Patriots unit that finished the Jets game with five healthy offensive linemen.

Why it matters: Despite earlier projections that Wylie would shift to left tackle after Laremy Tunsil's injury, the veteran has remained buried on Washington's depth chart behind third-round pick Brandon Coleman. Dealing Wylie would allow the Commanders to convert surplus line depth into a Day 3 draft pick while turning to practice-squad linemen Trent Scott or Esa Pole, who filled in at left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, as their swing tackle.

By the numbers: Wylie, in his ninth NFL season out of Eastern Michigan, has played 15 snaps this season. The 4-3 Patriots placed Mike Onwenu (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday and Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring) on injured reserve Thursday, while the Commanders placed Laremy Tunsil (triceps) on injured reserve Monday.

What to watch: Washington's deadline stance will come into sharper focus after its Week 9 matchup against the 2-4 Los Angeles Rams prior to the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Morgan Moses could return to New England's lineup this week as the Patriots evaluate front-line reinforcements.
