What happened: FIFA's ethics committee extended Jonathan Bukabakwa's suspension by five years to 2048 and ordered him to pay $15,000. The Congolese federation and Racing Club Baki were each fined $50,000 for allowing him to continue coaching youth players after his 20-year ban imposed in 2023.

Why it matters: The decision tests enforcement of suspensions in Congolese youth football after he was seen coaching in Kinshasa's Limete district. FIFA ordered the federation to introduce an education, compliance and monitoring programme for officials and clubs.

By the numbers: Original sanction: 20-year ban, October 2023. Extension: +5 years to 2048. Fines: $15,000 coach; $50,000 federation; $50,000 club.

What to watch: The federation is expected to establish a disciplinary committee and review prior cases under president Veron Mosengo-Omba. Monitoring will determine whether the extended suspension is enforced.
