What happened: Nick Foligno called a new contract for Hughes a “no-brainer.” The comments came weeks after Foligno chose to return for the 2026-27 season.

Why it matters: Minnesota retains exclusive negotiating rights before Hughes' possible 2027 free agency. The Wild want a long-term agreement.

By the numbers: Hughes' current contract is worth $47.1 million over six years, with a $7.85 million annual cap hit. Foligno signed for one year and $900,000 on July 2.

What to watch: Extension talks remain a key marker before training camp.
