What happened: The Giants are still looking for defensive tackle help ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline, and Chargers DT Dalvin Tomlinson, a 2017 second-round pick of New York, is one candidate. ESPN proposed that the Giants receive Tomlinson and a 2028 seventh-round pick for a 2028 sixth-round pick.

Why it matters: New York is 4-2-1 and holds the third seed, with a rotation behind nose tackle D.J. Reader that has been uneven. Shelby Harris, 35, has alternated good and ineffective games, Darius Alexander has improved against the run, and rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis was solid against Houston after a rough debut. The Chargers are 0-6, and Tomlinson, 32, is on a one-year deal.

By the numbers: Tomlinson's Pro Football Focus run-defense grade is 64.9 this season, up from 37.3 last year. An acquiring team would owe $1.97 million of his $2.69 million base salary, per Spotrac's trade machine.

What to watch: The Giants are on their bye week, and the trade deadline is Nov. 10.
