What happened: The Cleveland Guardians are emerging as a speculative destination for Mike Trout after taking the first two games against the Minnesota Twins. In a separate development, the Detroit Tigers placed Jack Flaherty on the 15-day injured list. Elsewhere, the Miami Marlins turned a triple play against Jose Altuve.

Why it matters: Adding an impact bat like Trout would represent a major offensive upgrade for a Cleveland club looking to solidify its playoff standing. Flaherty's injury significantly alters the trade market by removing a premier starting pitcher from consideration.

What to watch: Watch for further updates on Flaherty's recovery timeline as the trade deadline rapidly approaches.
