What happened: Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is alert and moving Monday after being shot at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. There is optimism he will play football again, though no timeline has been set for his return. Missouri confirmed the shooting in a statement and said Hardy's return-to-activity timeline is unknown.

Why it matters: Hardy is a key piece of Missouri's backfield heading into the 2026 season, and any extended absence reshapes the Tigers' offensive outlook in the SEC. The early medical signals — alert, moving, optimism on a football future — are meaningfully better than the worst-case feared after a shooting incident. Recovery pace will shape fall camp depth charts and early-season expectations in Columbia.

What to watch: Watch for an updated medical bulletin from Missouri and any guidance on when Hardy can resume football activities. Camp arrival and a return-to-contact date are the next markers.
