What happened: Hearts have signed defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott from York City for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old former Dundee and Dunfermline Athletic defender agreed to a four-year contract.

Why it matters: The move gives Hearts another defensive option ahead of the upcoming 2026 season and locks Fagan-Walcott into a long-term deal. For York City, the transfer turns a standout defender into a fee after reported outside interest earlier in the summer.

What to watch: Watch whether Hearts slot him immediately into the back line or ease him in during preseason. York City’s response in the transfer market will be the next roster signal.
