What happened: Illinois coach Bret Bielema said Monday that Grant Beerman broke his foot in Saturday's game and is out for the rest of the year. Kai Pritchard had surgery that morning on a labral tear in his shoulder, suffered in practice a couple of weeks ago, and will also miss the rest of the season.

Why it matters: Illinois was 2-3 and winless in the Big Ten a few weeks ago, then won at Michigan State and beat Oregon at home. Pritchard, a four-star recruit from the 2026 class, played behind a deep offensive line rotation this season.

By the numbers: Linebacker Daniel Brown has started Illinois' past four games. Brown and defensive back Tywan Cox were both active against Oregon and neither was on the injury report.

What to watch: Bielema expects Brown and Cox back for the road trip to Maryland. Receiver Jayshon Platt had a setback Wednesday and may return this week or next, per Bielema.
