What happened: The New York Islanders recalled left-shot defenseman Isaiah George from AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday. The move comes as top-pair defenseman Ryan Pulock was listed day-to-day with a lower-body injury, according to the NHL media site. George, 21, has posted 1-5—6 in 15 AHL games this season.

Why it matters: Pulock anchors the Islanders' top defense pair and leads the team in average ice time at 23:45 per game. Any absence could weaken their penalty kill (82.4%, 5th in NHL) and shift betting lines for upcoming games. With the Isles holding the East wild card spot, defensive stability is crucial for postseason hopes.

By the numbers: Pulock 2024-25: 25 GP, 2G-10A, +8, 23:45 avg TOI. George AHL: 15 GP, 1G-5A. Standings: NYI 10-8-3 (23 pts, 2nd WC East). Injury history: Pulock missed 15 games in 2023-24 with lower-body issue.

What to watch: Watch Pulock's practice status Thursday ahead of Friday's game vs. Rangers. Track George's pairing in debut.
